Drawing of Link-1999

Winter 1999

Here you see another of my early works concerning the main protagonist from The Legend of Zelda series. My skill as an artist left much to be desired at the time. The image looks very disjointed because I drew the character of Link as he looks inside of the game’s manual that came with Ocarina of Time (see below). I free handed the background around his already set pose in an attempt to bring life to the image. Looking at the image today I only have one thought…

Who the hell puts the door hinge on the outside of the door? Jackass.

The Story-

High school art class, 2003. I always envisioned myself becoming an artist of some type and decided it wouldn’t hurt to take art in high school. One of our first projects involved scratch boards, my first time ever seeing this form of art. My first attempt at using scratch board is what you see above. I was a metal head at the time. Everything was rock & roll and Metallica was my go to band back then. I pulled out the CD Jacket from their St. Anger album and used the images in it to create this piece.

In short, this is shitty high school art. 🙂

The Story-

During my time in the Army I remember having one particular lesson drilled into my head. That lesson was to always carry pen and paper. I figured it was for taking super top secret notes for the military, but in reality, its mostly just to draw doodles like these when you are bored out of your mind during some kind of repetitive safety brief. One day during one of those extremely boring safety meetings, I developed a pounding headache. The lights were all too bright and the man with the microphone was speaking too loud. I attempted to distract myself by doodling in my handy, dandy, notebook… And this image is the result I got. I think it summed things up about how I was feeling quite nicely.

Drawing of Link.

Created October 5th, 2000

It was the year 2000. The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask was about to be released and I could not contain my excitement. Therefore, my excitement spewed out of me in the form of terrible drawings such as this. We all had to start somewhere.

Just to be clear, this is not my original creation. All credit goes to Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, and the countless others that have brought this game, as well as many other games to us over the last four decades.

Thank You.
